DO HYENAS LAUGH?

The first time I heard a clan of hyenas 'laugh', it made me laugh. I laughed because of their laughter . It was hilarious but got me confused at the same and they made me feel like I was in a comedy show.  I was a child-around 6 years old.

 To this day, I'd say that  hyena's laughing sound is pure comic gold'.

There are 4 types of hyenas: Spotted, Stripped, Brown and Aardwolf Hyenas.

Did you know that it's the Spotted hyena makes the laughing sound?

Spotted Hyena

Well, hyenas don't actually laugh. It is a sound they make when they are either excited, frustrated or in fear while confronted by their rivals, like the lions.

Wait! You thought they actually laugh?  Imagine being confronted by a lion, and you're like, ''Let us make wedding vows. Till death do us apart. Ha!ha!ha!''

If you don't want to imagine, hyenas wouldn't either.

I tried to imagine what if humans were like that every time they got frustrated. I think most parents with teenagers would have their stomach and cheeks  hurt from frustration, or should I say laughter

The spotted hyena are also called, 'The Laughing Hyena' and are found in East Africa and Southern Africa. 

Talk about spotted hyenas understanding chess. In chess, the queen is the most powerful piece. They take the phrase, 'My Lady' to another whole level.

Among the spotted hyenas, females are physically powerful than men. 

They are also top in terms of hierarchy and does most of the hunting.

They are the largest types of hyenas, have a good eyesight and hearing at night and can run fast .

They are scattered in Africa.

One of the places where you can find them is at Maasai Mara National Reserve (Kenya).

Although, most people believe that hyenas are just scavengers,  they are actually hunters. 

Spotted hyenas hunt in groups and can take down a wildebeest.  

Stripped Hyena

The Striped hyena are smaller than spotted hyenas.

 They have stripes unlike their cousins, the spotted hyenas'. 

They are found in Northern Africa, Middle East and India. They are also nocturnal, meaning they see better during the night.

Brown Hyena

Brown Hyenas are also called, 'Strandwolf'.

They are the rarest types of hyenas and smallest  compared to the Spotted hyenas. 

They are fluffy. Let's just say, I had thought of petting a brown hyena just because it's fluffy.

Aardwolf Hyena

The Aardwolf is perhaps the most interesting.

It is the least-looking of the hyenas and commonly found in Southern and Eastern Africa. 
What fascinates me is that unlike the other types of hyenas, is that Aardwolves are insectivorous mammals and eats mostly termites.

Unlike other anteaters, Aardwolves don't dig because they don't have long claws, but rather, they lick using their long sticky tongue.

¿SE RÍEN LAS HIENAS?

 La primera vez que oí a un clan de hienas 'reír', me hizo reír. Me reí por su risa . Era divertidísimo pero me confundió al mismo tiempo y me hicieron sentir como si estuviera en un espectáculo de comedia. Era un niño-alrededor de 6 años de edad.

Hasta el día de hoy, diría que el sonido de risa de Hyena es puro oro cómico'.

Hay 4 tipos de hienas: Spotted, Stripped, Brown y Aardwolf Hyenas.
¿Sabías que es la hiena manchada la que hace el sonido de risa?

Hiena despojada

Bueno, las hienas no se ríen realmente. Es un sonido que hacen cuando están emocionados, frustrados o temerosos mientras se enfrentan a sus rivales, como los leones.

¡Espere! ¿Crees que realmente se ríen? Imagínese ser confrontado por un león, y usted es como, ''Déjanos hacer votos matrimoniales. Hasta que la muerte nos separe. Ha!ha!ha!''

Si no quiere imaginarse, las hienas tampoco lo harían.
Traté de imaginar que si los humanos eran así cada vez que se frustraban. Creo que a la mayoría de los padres con adolescentes les dolerían el estómago y las mejillas por frustración, o debería decir risas.

La hiena manchada también se llama, 'La hiena riendo' y se encuentra en África Oriental y África Austral.
Hable sobre hienas manchadas para entender el ajedrez. En ajedrez, la reina es la pieza más poderosa. Llevan la frase, 'Mi Señora' a otro nivel entero.

Entre las hienas manchadas, las mujeres son físicamente poderosas que los hombres.
Son también superiores en términos de jerarquía y hace la mayoría de la caza.
Son los tipos más grandes de hienas, tienen una buena vista y audición por la noche y pueden funcionar rápido .

Están dispersas en África.
Uno de los lugares donde se pueden encontrar es la Reserva Nacional Maasai Mara (Kenya).
Aunque, la mayoría de la gente cree que las hienas son solo carroñeras, en realidad son cazadoras.
Las hienas manchadas cazan en grupos y pueden derribar a un ñu.

Hiena despojada

Las hienas de rayas son más pequeñas que las hienas manchadas.

Tienen rayas a diferencia de sus primos, las hienas manchadas.

Se encuentran en el norte de África, Oriente Medio e India. También son nocturnos, lo que significa que ven mejor durante la noche.

El hiena de marron

Las hienas marrones también se llaman 'Strandwolf'.

Son los tipos de hienas más raros y más pequeños en comparación con las hienas manchadas.

Son suaves. Digamos que había pensado acariciar una hiena marrón sólo porque es esponjosa.

Hiena lobo hormiguero

El Aardwolf es quizás el más interesante.

Es la hienas menos atractiva y comúnmente encontrada en el sur y el este de África.
Lo que me fascina es que, a diferencia de otros tipos de hienas, es que los Aardwolves son mamíferos insectívoros y comen principalmente termitas.

A diferencia de otros hormigueros, los Aardwolves no cavan porque no tienen garras largas, sino que lamen usando su larga lengua pegajosa.

THE GREAT WILDEBEEST MIGRATION

Ever heard of the Great Wildebeest Migration? Yes?-No? 

It's one of the eight wonders of the world.

More than 1.5 million wildebeest migrate from Serengeti National park in Tanzania to Maasai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya. 

Although, its known as the Great wildebeest migration, wildebeest aren't the only animals that take part in the great migration.

Around 300,000 Zebras, Impalas, Grant's gazelles, Thompson gazelles and Elands, take part in the migration.

So why do these animals migrate? They migrate in search for food and water. 

I've always wondered how these animals knew when to migrate. Come to think of it, they don't have a calendar nor do they have a clue on how to read. 

So how on earth do they join the dots? 

I had my A-ha! moment years ago.

They follow the rainfall.  I know this even sound more complicated, because we're talking about animals.

It is said that wildebeest can smell the air from thousands of kilometers away.  The animals see storms on the horizon and move towards them, knowing that the grass they eat grows after the rain.

While migrating from Serengeti (Tanzania)to Maasai Mara (Kenya), they cross The Mara river, where the crocodiles have a feast out from the migration. 

Lions, leopards and cheetahs don't get left, either.  They ,too, wait for the millions of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles .

It is estimated that around 250,000 of these animals gets killed during the migration.

Surely! I can't be the only one who think that the Great Wildebeest migration should be called . 'The Greatest Show'?   

It's like that one of the year where you get to have a family vacation, together with your family friends and not being sure if you'll ever see them again.

That's just me, being human thinks. Do animals ever think of it like that? I mean these are the same animals that will know when to travel.

But then again, there's a reason why they are called ,'Wild Animals' and mother nature, have a way of letting nature takes its course.

LA GRAN MIGRACIÓN DE ÑUS

 Alguna vez ha oído hablar de la Gran Migración de ñus ? Sí?-No?

Es una de la octava maravillas del mundo.

Más de 1,5 millones de nus migran desde el Parque Nacional Serengeti en Tanzania, a la Reserva de Caza Maasai Mara en Kenia. 

Aunque es conocida como la gran migración de ñus , la más salvaje no son los únicos animales que participan en la gran migración.
Alrededor de 300.000 Zebras, Impalas, Gacelas de Grant, Gacelas Thompson y Elands, participan en la migración.

Entonces, por qué estos animales migran? Migran en busca de alimentos y agua.

Siempre me he preguntado cómo sabían estos animales cuándo migrar. 

Ven a pensar en ello, ellos no tienen un calendario ni tienen una pista sobre cómo leer.

Entonces, ¿cómo diablos unen los puntos?

Se dice que el más salvaje puede oler el aire a miles de kilómetros de distancia. Los animales ven tormentas en el horizonte y se mueven hacia ellos, sabiendo que la hierba que comen crece después de la lluvia.

Mientras migran de Serengeti (Tanzania) a Maasai Mara (Kenia), cruzan el río Mara, donde los cocodrilos tienen un festín de la migración.

Los Leones, leopardos y guepardos tampoco se quedan. Ellos, también, esperan a los millones de wildebeest, cebras y gacelas .

Se estima que alrededor de 250.000 de estos animales mueren durante la migración.
¡Seguro! No puedo ser el único que piensa que la migración de Great Wildebeest debe ser llamada . El espectáculo más grande?

Es como una del año en la que puede pasar unas vacaciones en familia, junto con sus amigos de la familia y no estar seguro de si alguna vez los volverá a ver.
Eso es solo yo, siendo humano piensa. ¿Los animales alguna vez piensan en esto? Quiero decir que estos son los mismos animales que sabrán cuándo viajar.

Pero una vez más, hay una razón por la que se llaman , 'Animales Salvajes' y la madre naturaleza, tienen una manera de dejar que la naturaleza tome su curso.

WORLD GIRAFFE'S DAY

Today (21st. June) , being Giraffe's day, I want to celebrate Giraffes and some of the things we can learn just by observing these peaceful creatures.

Growing up, my mom would tell me to walk with my head held up high, because I have no reason to walk with it down. It took me years to actually grasp what she meant. 

It's only when I started to go on excursions and safaris that I understood her words. The first time I paid  close attention to giraffes, I felt like mother nature was telling me, 'here, this is the definition of confidence'.

Giraffes exudes confidence. They walk with their head held up high .

There's a famous mythology in Africa about how the giraffe got its long neck.

It is said that when God created all the animals, there was a giraffe called Twiga (this is the Swahili translation for Giraffe).Twiga stretched her neck to the heavens so she could be sure to hear all that God had to say. God was pleased ,so Twiga got an even longer neck. With that, Twiga could reach the leaves on the branches where the other animals could not, and so she could easily hear his word. The rest of the animal kingdom got to learn that putting extra  effort brings extra rewards.

African shamans believes giraffes to be messengers of God.

The Arabic name of giraffe is, 'Zerafa', which is translated as ,'Charming or the Lovely One'.      In Botswana, they call the giraffe, 'Thutlhwa', which means the Honored One.

The sad reality is that these charming and honored animals are losing number in population because of poaching. 

There are nine subspecies across Africa. Six of them have decreased because of being killed by poachers. Three of the subspecies are found in Kenya,: The Reticulated Giraffe, Rothschild and the Maasai Giraffe. 

Their long neck allows them to see far. We should learn to see far and beyond. Pretty much, we should be visionaries.

The giraffe might be an animal, but just by observing it, we can learn to embrace or uniqueness, to be visionaries and to walk with confidence and pride.

Repeat after me, ''I walk with my head held up high, because I have no reason to walk with it down''. ..and you know what? Learn to forgive yourself as well.

I'm so grateful for these beautiful ,charming and 'The Honored One' animals.

DÍA MUNDIAL DE LA JIRAFA

 Hoy (21 de junio), siendo el día de la jirafa, quiero celebrar las jirafas y algunas de las cosas que podemos aprender con solo observar a estas criaturas pacíficas.

Al crecer, mi madre me decía que caminara con la cabeza en alto, porque no tengo ninguna razón para caminar con ella hacia abajo. Me tomó años comprender realmente lo que quería decir.

Es sólo cuando empecé a ir de excursiones y safaris que entendí sus palabras. La primera vez que prestaba mucha atención a los jirafas, sentí que la madre naturaleza me decía: 'Aquí, esta es la definición de confianza'.

Las jirafas irradian confianza. Caminan con la cabeza en alto.

Hay una mitología famosa en África sobre cómo la jirafa obtuvo su largo cuello.

Se dice que cuando Dios creó todos los animales, había una jirafa llamada Twiga (esta es la traducción de Swahili para Giraffe).Twiga estiró su cuello a los cielos para que ella pudiera estar segura de escuchar todo lo que Dios tenía que decir.

Dios estaba contento, así que Twiga tenía un cuello aún más largo. Con eso, Twiga podía llegar a las hojas en las ramas donde los otros animales no podían, y así podía oír fácilmente su palabra. El resto del reino animal consiguió aprender que poner esfuerzo adicional trae recompensas adicionales.

Los chamanes africanos creen que las jirafas son mensajeras de Dios.

El nombre árabe de la jirafa es, 'Zerafa', que se traduce como 'Encantador o el Encantador'. En Botswana, llaman a la jirafa, 'Thutlhwa', que significa el Honrado.

La triste realidad es que estos encantadores y honrados animales están perdiendo número de habitantes debido a la caza furtiva.

Hay nueve subespecies en toda África. Seis de ellos han disminuido debido a la muerte de cazadores furtivos. Tres de las subespecies se encuentran en Kenia: La jirafa reticulada, Rothschild y la jirafa Maasai.

Su largo cuello les permite ver lejos. Debemos aprender a ver mucho y más allá. Más o menos, deberíamos ser visionarios.

La jirafa puede ser un animal, pero con solo observarla, podemos aprender a abrazarla o a ser únicos, a ser visionarios y a caminar con confianza. 

Repite después de mí: "Camino con la cabeza en alto, porque no tengo ninguna razón para caminar con ella hacia abajo". .. ¿Y sabes qué? Aprende a perdonarte a ti mismo también.

!Hola!

Ahora que estás aquí, abróchate el cinturón porque este no va a ser un blog de viajes típico.
 Me encontré con una cita que en realidad me hizo sonrir. Dijo: '' Una persona que no viaja, termina casándose con su vecino''. ¡Oh! ¡No es que me quejo de mis vecinos! (¡Espera!-¿Soy yo?). Sólo desearía que mi vecino fuera Brad Pitt o David Beckham, o ambos.

Espera! Mi nombre no es Ben, pero sí, esto va a ser todo acerca de Aventura con Bencia. Una empresa de viajes con sede en Nairobi, Kenia, que le encanta dar a la gente adrenalina y dar la verdadera definición de ,'Sólo se vive una vez'. 

Este es un hogar. Vamos a tener tanta aventura y hablar de cualquier cosa y todo en viaje y cómo viajar puede cambiar a una persona. Hubo un tiempo que incluso fui vegano (por dos semanas) por estar sólo en tirado hacia los animales. Eso es una historia para otro día, sin embargo.

Los recuerdos vienen en diferentes formas, el olor de una persona puede recordarle a alguien. ¿Pero usted sabe qué más puede ser un catalizador para los recuerdos? Viajar. Puede ser con su familia, seres queridos o si usted es lo suficientemente atrevido-viajando solo.

Safari en el idioma swahili significa.'viaje'.. y de esto se tratará este blog. Lo bueno, mejor y mejor. Pensaste que iba a decir, el 'feo', ¿eh?

Lo único feo que vas a llegar aquí es mi llanto cuando no tendré que viajar porque mi sueño de tener a Brad Pitt como mi vecino se ha hecho realidad.

 Hay un famoso dicho africano que dice: "El ojo nunca olvida lo que el corazón ha visto".

Los safaris son mágicos. Usted consigue experimentar el gusto de estar en un reino animal. Cómo la jirafa consigue catrwalk con su cuello largo que es como un modelo, y el león, siendo un gato grande que no entiende cómo la jirafa dominó el arte de caminar del gato.

Además, sólo observando la naturaleza y el reino animal en general, nosotros los humanos, podemos obtener inspiración. Por ejemplo, los Leones nos inspiran a que nunca nos bajemos. Incluso si un león muere de hambre, nunca verá a un león comiendo hierba.

La Madre África te está llamando a tener un sabor de primera mano para experimentar la aventura en el desierto.
